I have stumbled across a few small treasures recently which gave me the inspiration to write a new blog post, so, if you are looking for a new cooking, beauty, drink or eating out recommendation then please read on. Here are a few recent discoveries I am excited to share and hope I to inspire you to try these out.
1. In the kitchen:
If you are a bit of a kitchen gadget geek like me then you will love this – the Spiralizer, available on websites like Amazon, this handy tool makes prepping vegetables enjoyable and less time consuming. With the three blades available you can make healthy alternatives to noodles, pasta and rice by using this on courgettes, sweet potatoes, carrots and many other fruit or vegetables. I have tried this out with a few meals recently and I am impressed with the results, there will be more to come on the blog on this soon. In the mean time you can check out new recipes and tips from Ali – the founder of the clever gadget, on her blog Inspiralized.
Okay, for those few who weren’t aware, yesterday was International Women’s Day, a day which I believe to be very important. I planned a post for the day, but in typical fashion, my weekend caught up with me. BUT I do have a lot of thoughts which I wanted to share and it is vital that we keep talking about these subjects even if it is not IWD today.

During London Fashion Week, citizenM hosted the Celebrating Creativity event at their London Bankside hotel, of which I had the pleasure of been part of. Held in citizenM’s wonderful SocietyM meeting rooms, the event was designed to bring bloggers and creative citizens together to celebrate creativity in all of it’s many forms. The two speakers; Theatre Director and Playwright Jessica Swale and Visual Artist Liz Atkin, both epitomised the evenings message, as they spoke about their career journey in the creative arts and the challenges they faced along the way.
For over a year now I have been practising Hot Vinyasa/Bikram Yoga. This style of yoga is practised in a heated room of around 37°C to improve strength and flexibility. In the past I have also dabbled in Rokit Yoga, which is perfect for those who like their fitness a bit more fast paced or enjoy an aerobic style workout. Some weeks I find myself more dedicated then others, but as a whole I always feel more relaxed and refreshed after a class.
Last Wednesday, we arrived in Amsterdam Schiphol Airport at 7.15pm and our flight departed the next day at 7.15pm, so a ’24 hour’ theme fitted in well for this travel post. When I was writing this I also had the 24 theme tune music going through my head – note to self: stop watching TV and cut down on coffee.
I was travelling with work but I would still like to share with you a snapshot of some of the things we did and saw in our short, fly-by visit.
Firstly, we made our way from the airport and arrived at the citizenM Amsterdam city centre hotel where we were staying the night. I am already familiar with the brand and their clever approach to catering for the modern-day traveler but I was so impressed when I saw the inspired hotel in reality. The lobby ‘living rooms’ are spacious and as soon as we stepped through the doors you could feel the friendly and social ambience welcome you in. It is difficult to describe the atmosphere but it just had a way to make you feel at home, as people enjoyed sitting on their laptops, chatting with friends or having a relaxing drink.
Upstairs, the bedroom is in a league of its own, each room has an XL bed – which is a bit of an understatement in my mind as it is so huge and incredibly comfy. There is a mood pad in each room which also lets you control the colour of the lights, temperature, blinds, music, tv and (free) movies.

For me, when I think of eating in winter, I always think about hearty comfort food and hot roast dinners. Indulging over Christmas can be satisfying, but stuffing our faces doesn’t necessarily make us feel at our best. As January is the month of eating healthily and keeping active, I thought it would be apt to see how you can still eat a healthy diet and survive the Monday morning blues.
Food has one of the most powerful effects on our mood and productivity daily, I am definitely grumpy when I am craving some grub! This is why one of my top resolutions for 2015 is to explore new food combinations which are thought to improve our mood.
Leather leggings are a big trend for the start of this year and it has not been long since the trend was last around. Givenchy gave one of the first glimpses of the trend re-emerging back in September at Paris fashion week with their S/S 2015 collection. Before now, leather leggings were being worn with high heels for a night out along with tight cropped tops that
created a look that bordered on fetish-wear territory. Now instead, celebrities and style icons are opting for a more laid-back casual approach; teaming the trend with check shirts, oversized coats and trainers which brings androgyny to the style. I personally think this combination makes the trend much more appealing, giving it a slight ‘edge’. This is why
I invested in my leather look leggings, somewhat sceptically, from Topshop (£20) and since then I have enjoyed wearing them with multiple items in my wardrobe. Above I have chosen to share with you how I would style this trend with my wardrobe.

In my previous job I worked in Visual Merchandising or in other words a Miracle Working role, in this position you seem to get a knack for DIY.
Now that I’m renting my own apartment, I find it frustrating not having the freedom of being able to decorate in the way I would like. I have come across a few places though which come in handy when you want to bring some art into your home!
I’m not sure how I would really describe my taste for home-ware – I guess it is quite eclectic. Then again at the moment, I am obsessed with scandinavian and dutch design; this has come from looking at far too many blogs such as Gosto Design and Enigheid. I love the clean minimalist design mixed with bold modern pieces of furniture and colourful artwork.
All the walls in my apartment are painted a light magnolia and the floor is carpeted in neutral colours too. Like so many other rentals the space is easily adaptable for any tenants furniture but can look almost bare if there is little colour brought in. I wanted to share with you my favourite parts of my home where I have added colour and artwork to reflect our personalities.
I usually find gift with purchases to be a bit of a disappointment with tiny sample sizes that are too small to test effectively. So I just wanted to share with you a gift with purchase that really impressed me recently, The Urban Retreat Beautique – Utterly Luxury Gift With Purchase.
The gift with purchase is worth £110 and was available for free if you spent £150 on the Urban Retreat website over the Christmas period, boasting eleven products from a variety of brands. Although I enjoyed all of the products, here are the top three stand-out items for me which I would now look to invest in:
The NARS lip gloss in ‘Priscilla’ which works well on its own or applied on top of a bold shade of lipstick. NARS is a hugely popular brand at the moment which receives ample coverage from nearly every beauty blogger out there, but this was my first experience with one of their products and I can now understand what all the fuss is about.
The Leonor Greyl shampoo. I hadn’t heard much about this brand before but I loved how this product tackled my somewhat lifeless hair which is why this has quickly replaced my favourite shampoo.
Finally, the Thalgo exotic island body scrub, this smells incredible and leaves your skin feeling refreshed and rejuvenated, I also found that it is also a lot gentler to use then most other exfoliants.
